The archive of the Faculty of Medicine preserves the administrative documentation of the Institution, since 1911, and of its predecessors, the Régia Escola de Cirúrgica do Porto (1825) and the Escola Médico-Cirúrgica do Porto (1936). It also holds parts of personal archives, mostly of professors, who became eminent figures in the history of Portuguese medicine. In addition to the administrative usefulness, important document sets of relevant historical and artistic expression stand out.
The Information and Archive Center (NIA), established by the organic regulation of 2022, has the function of gathering, managing and preserving the documentation produced and received by FMUP and supporting the services in document organization solutions, during the active life cycle of the processes.
The action of the NIA also extends to the cataloging of the Old Book and the library of the Museum of History of Medicine Maximiano Lemos. It also supports the curation of museological information. In addition to internal activities, the NIA responds to requests for document reproduction and support for research and discovery.
Monday to Friday, during working hours, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm
The archive deposit is not open to the public. Requests for access to information, digitally or locally, must be sent to the email provided.
