Summary:

With the increasing social and economic importance of the cities, there are increasing challenges
which are addressed with the introduction of new technologies. However, these new technologies
can both be seen as opportunities or threats, making cities more "intelligent" but simultaneous
dependent, vulnerable and subject to abuse, namely regarding cybersecurity. It is therefore crucial
that security-wise cities have advanced technological systems capable of responding to all kinds of
threats, benefiting from technologies associated with IoT, artificial intelligence and machine learning,
cloud computing and the analysis of very large and complex data sets (Big Data).
The overall goal of the Safe Cities project is to research and develop innovative products and services
that contribute to the safety of people and the security of systems and subsystems that interact with
them in cities.
The Safe Cities project relies on three interconnected pillars (Sensors, Cloud and Public Address)
that create an ecosystem of products and services that can be made safer through multifunction
products, their data capture and storage capabilities, intelligence and communications are exploited
in great ways for them to create the various services across the ecosystem.
