Between 1978 and 1988 she was Assistant Professor within the group of Applied Mathematics at the

EUNIS, the European University Information Systems Organization, between 2004 and 2006, after being a vice-president for two years, and a member of the Technical Committee of
TERENA, the Trans-European Research and Education Networking Association, between 2008 and 2011. She was a member of
The Leadership Board for CIO’s, formed by
The Chronicle of Higher Education and Dr Michael Zastrocky and she was the first Chairperson of the
CASRAI (Consortium Advancing Standards in Research Administrative Information) European Chapter, between 2017 and 2018.
She was a professional member of
ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery from 1997 onwards. That year she started the FEUP ACM Student Chapter, having previously promoted, in 1994, the annual participation of the University of Porto in the international programming contest ACM-SWERC (ACM Southwestern Europe Programming Contest).
Her main research areas of interest were Computer Simulation, High-Performance Computing, Information Systems, Electronic Administration and Informal Learning Spaces.
She is author or co-author of more than 70 publications, mainly in international conference proceedings but also in peer-review journals, as well as book chapters and books of proceedings, as editor. She was responsible for several financed projects, with a global financed budget of more than 28 million euros. She was also responsible for other U.Porto projects, specifically the information system,
SIGARRA, the
institutional repository, the
grid project and the
e-learning cafés project.
She supervised several students, in particular, PhD's and Master's, and she was a member of the organising and/or the programme committees of 40+ international conferences, some as chairperson, namely as chairperson of the organising committee of
VECPAR’93,
VECPAR'98 and
EUNIS 2018 Rectors' Conference, and of the programme committee of the
3rd EUNIS Rectors Conference, in 2012.
