Vasco Ribeiro holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from The University of Minho, MA from the University of Porto Faculty of Arts and Humanities and a Degree in Journalism from the School of Journalism of Porto.
He has worked as teacher and researcher for “Public Relations”, “Communications Strategy”, “Journalism Studies”, “Political Communication”, and “Media Relations” at FLUP since 2002, and is currently the course director of the Master’s in Communication Sciences. He is the director for the course on Public Communication and Political Representation at the Porto Business School (PBS), as well as promoter, in collaboration with colleagues from two other faculties (FEUP and FCUP) of the Pedagogical Innovation course on “Communication of Science for non-specialist audiences”.
He initiated his professional career in communication as press advisor for the Young Entrepreneurs National Association in 1996, where he was responsible for media promotion for Portugal Fashion. He was Head of Communication for the Metro do Porto (1998) and for the University of Porto (2002). He also led the Press Office for the Porto City Hall and he was press adviser for the then Mayor (1998-2001). Vasco was also coordinator of the Press Office for the Socialist Party’s Parliament Bench in the Portuguese Parliament and adviser for the parliamentary leader and press officer of MP at European Parliament. He was Cabinet Assistant at Economic and Social Council (9/2020-4/2021). He has coordinated a number of political and corporate media campaigns.
