IN Staff - information
Teaching, research, and training at FMUP

Teachers, researchers, or technicians from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Health sector can undertake a period of mobility at FMUP for teaching (Short Teaching Assignment - STA) and/or training (Staff Mobility for Training - STT) missions.

At the end of the mobility period, the individual receives certificates from the host institution proving they have attended and completed the teaching or training assignment.

These opportunities occur within the framework of international mobility programmes - among which the Erasmus+ Programme is one of the most widely used - or under bilateral cooperation agreements that the home institution has set up with FMUP within the framework of international cooperation.

In any case, applying for academic mobility always begins with the support and information provided by the home institution's mobility and international relations office and the mobility candidate's access to mobility programmes, whether funded or not.

What is Staff IN mobility?

  • It is an individual mobility;
  • It involves the teacher, technician or researcher, the higher education institution (HEI) of origin and the host organization signing a Staff Mobility Agreement for Teaching/Training, which establishes the plan of activities to be carried out at the host institution and which will be recognized at the institution of origin;
  • The applicant chooses the type of application (Teaching or Training) at the start of filling in the Application Form. This choice depends on the mobility activity: all staff can access a mobility application for training (teachers included); for teaching mobility, the candidate must be teaching at the Home Institution. In the Staff Mobility for Teaching application, the applicant must submit the existing mobility agreement between the two institutions concerned, the home and host institutions;
  • This is usually regulated between the home and host institutions through bilateral agreements signed as part of cooperation and mobility programmes.

Recipients

Teachers, researchers or technicians who have a contractual relationship with their home institution for the academic year in which they are applying and for the duration of the mobility period.

Concerning teaching mobilities, the lecturer must have a contractual relationship with the home institution that expressly includes teaching activities.

Instructions for incoming staff candidates - step by step:

At the institution where you work

The Staff candidate interested in incoming mobility to FMUP is in one of the following conditions:

  • Works at an FMUP partner university:
    • under the Erasmus+ programme
    • under a bilateral institutional cooperation agreement

    You check whether you are eligible for mobility under the partnership programme and whether there is an inter-institutional agreement between your home university and FMUP - information and support from your home institution's mobility and international relations office.

    Apply for mobility at your home institution.

    Access to funding and periods of mobility usually follow the same type of guidelines between mobility programmes:

    • maximum mobility period of 5 working days, plus support for 2 travelling days;
    • minimum of 8 teaching hours per teaching assignment;
    • a minimum of 2 working days for each training and teaching mission (translated into hours, this corresponds to around 16 hours);

    The candidate is validated by their university of origin for an exchange period at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).

    From this point onwards, the candidate contacts the FMUP and the support service for these processes is the Academic Mobility Centre (NMA-UGA) of the Academic Management Unit.

  • Works at a university that doesn't have a partnership with FMUP and applies to FMUP for academic mobility:

    You enquire with the mobility and international relations office at your home institution.

    You apply for mobility at your home institution.

    Your home university validates you for an exchange period at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

    From this point onwards, the candidate contacts the FMUP and the support service for these processes is the Academic Mobility Centre (NMA-UGA) of the Academic Management Unit.
