Personal Presentation

 

Manuel F. Ramos is an Auxiliary Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities – FLUP (Department of Portuguese and Romanic Studies – DEPER) in the University of Porto. He holds a BA (honours) in Arts and Humanities (Classical and Portuguese Studies) at the University of Coimbra (1992); then a Master’s degree in Classical Languages (FLUC – 1996) and finally a PhD in Literature from de University of Porto (2007).

He teaches Latin in particular (at various levels) and Classical Literature, but his teaching repertoire also includes Oral and Written Communication; Scientific Work Methodology and is a tutor of trainee teachers in Secondary Schools.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he has also held various management positions within the DEPER.

His main area of interest is in editing and translating medieval Latin texts; however, Classical and Medieval Rhetoric, the formation of the Portuguese language during the Middle Ages and the study of the reception of classical culture in the Middle Ages are also areas of interest.

Most of his publications focus on the editing and translation of texts, whether literary (rhetorical or not), historical, legal and theological, with a keen interest in disseminating knowledge about the Portuguese Middle Ages.

He regularly and fruitfully collaborates with his medievalist colleagues at FLUP; and many of his publications have resulted from this collaborative work.
