Personal Presentation
Elena Zagar Galvão obtained her PhD in Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Porto, Portugal, in 2015. The title of her thesis is Gesture in Simultaneous Interpreting from English into European Portuguese: An Exploratory Study. She has an MA in English Studies from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she was a Fulbright grantee and a Teaching Assistant. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Translation and Terminology from the University of Porto and a degree in translation from the Scuola Superiore di Lingue Moderne per Interpreti e Traduttori, University of Trieste, Italy. She teaches general translation from Portuguese into English to undergraduates and specialised translation in the Master’s programme in Translation and Language Services (MTSL). She is the coordinator of MTSL as well as of the Specialisation Course in Conference Interpreting. She is a member of the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC) and the Associação Portuguesa de Intérpretes de Conferência (APIC). Her research interests include conference interpreting, gesture studies and multimodality.Research
