The curricular unit Education Policy Analysis (EPA) aims at providing students with
competences to analyse texts, discourses and political processes in education, by identifying their discursive matrices and the mandates addressed to the social systems by the actors involved in the policy process.. The Curricular Unit EPA intends to broaden the analysis of the nature of political discourses and practices and to identify their social and educational effects. Having in mind the profile of graduates aimed at, this latter dimension pretends to develop individual, social and professional reflexivity and, by doing so, to create the conditions for the exercise of the ‘sociological imagination’, i.e., the competence
to build and to propose alternatives.

The curricular subjet is structured around theoretical axes evaluation and educational supervision to articulate a comprehensive intention of questioning, and reflection, and on the socio-educational reality. It is intended, in particular, enable students to research and intervention in these areas, in school contexts, and in other contexts and socio-educational projects that are linked to the school. In this sense, networking and partnership, while mobilizing strategies of synergies between different actors and educational entities / as, are also theoretical reflection object and constitute methodological basis to think the process of intervention / investigation.

Enable students to develop research projects / intervention in the evaluation of courses and educational supervision

Policies of Social Inclusion and Community Intervention
OP120 - ECTS
Policies for Inclusion and Community Intervention aims at to develop students´skills in order to understand and to analyse social policy and social policies in various fields and types of intervention. The place of inclusion/exclusion in social policies is another dimension under analysis both thinking on the related problems and on the adressed intervention practices. Portuguese reality and the supranational context are reflected namely looking at the emergency, development and the current situation of policies and community intervention towards inclusion.
Sumarising the main goals of the course are:
i) to debate conceptions on social policy and social inclusion/exclusion
ii) to identify and analyse policies adressed to social inclusion
iii) to think on the role and influence of supranational agencies, their basic principles and proposals
iv) to analyse Portuguese reality, its trajectory and on-going situation within the field of social policies for inclusion
v) to define and debate the role of community intervention within social policies domain.

Citizenship and Diversity aims to address citizenship as a concept and its relationship with the state, the community and with individuals. Civil, political, and social rights as well as the new generation rights - the cultural rights are debated as central to rethink society and social democratic relationships. The issues of inclusion and exclusion and socio-cultural diversity are equally approached.

Deconstruction of Patriarchal Culture for the Prevention of Gender Violence

- Develop concepts on culture and gender and domestic violence, in diverse theoretical perspectives;
- Critical analysis on educational and cultural settings and power mechanisms in the social production of a culture that tolerates gender violence;
- Reflect upon the connection between power dinamics, social movements and social change in the socio-historic construction around gender violence, family violence, as well as violence against elderly and against children;
- Identify and critical analysis of models and social policies in intervention for cultural and educational change concerning gender violence;
- Elaboration of small educative intervention projects in the field of social and cultural change of gender violence in a multidisciplinary perspective.

The curricular unit (CU) Education, Cooperation and Development is proposed, in the domain of Educatiom, Comunities and Social Change, by the finding, in Portugal and other countries, of social movements and other social and political actors who develop an intervention from the perspective of Education for Development, which sets off questions and challenges to the field of educational practice and reflection. On the other hand, this fact builts spaces and forms of professional intervention where the masters in Education may find their social relevance, both from the point of view of consulting, assessment, intervention and / or research.
The main goal of this CU is to present and discuss the ways in which is equationed the role of education in processes of development cooperation. This implies previously discuss what is meant by development cooperation and how this process has been transforming and has organized politically. This discussion is anchored in the discussion of the concept of development and the roles assigned to education in this, particularly in contexts of international cooperation.
This CU aims to integrate in the field of educational thought the discussion of political, social, cultural and economic dimensions of development processes, in an approach that essentially will highlight the educational dimension of political and social intervention.
