Abstract (EN):
This chapter provides an overview of the multiple dimensions and impacts of imitation on the making of global business. It focuses on the wine industry, which historically developed as one of the first global industries, and which was particularly affected by imitation and adulteration during late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The chapter provides a multidisciplinary review of the existing literature, particularly in business history, on how imitation affected the making of global business and economic development. The real impact of imitation on the making of global business and economic development remains an open debate. Several economic studies analyze the impact of imitations on the growth of global trade, on the profitability of businesses, and on consumers’ wellbeing. Imitation of goods is a growing and widespread phenomenon which has historically had great significance in the making of global business and also on the economic development of countries.
