Abstract (EN):
Pervaporation process using commercial microporous silica water selective membranes was evaluated. The performance of the membrane in the absence of mass transfer limitations was studied. The effect of feed composition at different operating temperatures on the total permeation flux for the water/ethanol pair was investigated. The species permeances were obtained for each experiment and correlated to account for the effect of temperature and feed composition. Permeances of ethanol and ethyl lactate depended solely on the temperature, following an Arrhenius equation. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 19th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering and 7th European Congress of Chemical Engineering (Prague, Czech Republic 8/28/2010-9/1/2010).
