Abstract (EN):
This chapter analyzes the impacts of the three main hurricanes in 2020 in Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries in the context of the global health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, the tropical cyclones Eta, Laura, and Iota caused more than 2.7 million new internal displacements in 13 countries of the region. The temporal coincidence of these three hurricanes with the first pandemic wave meant increased exposure of internally displaced people (IDPs) to COVID-19 infections. As a result, in 2020, a singularly adverse scenario of great relevance emerged for the LAC region. Therefore, this chapter highlights the differential impacts of COVID-19 that IDPs faced in this region during much of the year 2020, and the lessons learned for disaster risk reduction, including displaced people.
