Program

The syllabus is designed in accordance with the conceptual framework of the curricular unit. It is required to emphasise written and published science for different reasons. First, it is an effective way of getting to know a question or a body of data and the problems of analysis and issues of interpretation that surround it. Organising this information into a clear coherent written paper gives a deeper understanding of the subject. Also, it is an excellent way of training to communicate effectively – a ‘transferable skill’ that will be useful to in almost any setting.  The Disseration Curricular Unit intends to test the broad understanding of a subject, the capacity to translate individual science into written material, and the ability to communicate immediately and concisely. Main areas developed:

a) Written essay or other material
b) Books and articles
c) Other sources of information (internet)
d) Citation
e) Bibliography
f) Plagiarism
g) Data bases
h) Scientific networks

Teaching methods and learning activities

The Assessment is performed by the responsible professor for the tutorial supervision. An assessment of the whole pedagogical process and of the evolution of each student's capacities is at stake: evolution in the communication skills, evolution of the human relation, of the regular attendance to the tutorial supervision, of the interest and participation in the pedagogic process and, finally, of the theoretical and practical knowledge. The Final Evaluation will reflect  the development of the work leading to the dissertation and also the preparation of the public defense.
