Objectives

Provide students with the conceptual tools - legal and psychopathological - to assess the change in responsibility in relation to psychological acts, whether in major psychopathological syndromes, both in psychopathology of everyday life. Provide the basis for the assessment of psychopathological responsibility in all areas of law enforcement. Provide the basic structure of the psychiatric expert examination enabling earlier evaluations. Promote discussion on the application context of compulsory treatment. Provide students with a forum for discussion on the issue of mental normality and its assessment. Provide the basis for reflection on the ability to work and their limitations in terms of psychopathology.

Learning outcomes and competences

The unit’s contents, while not comprehensively addressing all of the complexity and magnitude of the problems inherent to forensic psycopathology, addresses and develops specific key points in order to create a broad understanding of the topic, while allowing students to develop capabilities to deepen their knowledge according to their intervening area. The contents were developed to raise the students’ sensitivity and critical judgment, thus promoting their problem solving ability.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This unit aims to communicate specific knowledge about the issues at hand and apply this knowledge in a practical way, so that the theoretical and practical approach, sustained on real case work, seems more appropriate.
