  1. The basic mechanism underlying immune-mediated diseases
  2. Principles of allergen immunotherapy ( Hymenoptera venom aeroallergens, food allergens)
  3. Using  immunotherapy and biologic treatments in immune-mediated diseases (allergic diseases, auto-immune disease and in cancer)
  4. Therapeutic approaches of primary immunodeficiencies
  5. Modulation of immune response using exercise and diet

Learning outcomes and competences

Learning results:

  1. Should identify indications and contra-indications for allergen immunotherapy and mechanisms involved

  2. Understand the therapeutic aprroach in allergi, auto-immune and immunodeficiency disease

  3. Understand the efficacy, safety and risk-benefit of immunotherapy

  4. Interpret a case report and identify the most important recommended treatment options

  5. Present and publicly discuss a case report or a scientific paper showeing the immune-mediated mechanism and its therapeutic approach

Teaching methods and learning activities

The Curricular Unit consists of a series of theoretical classes (8 sessions of 1 hour), seminar (2 sessions of 2.5 hours), theoretical-practical (6 sessions of 2.5 hours), corresponding to 28 contact hours, autonomous study (52h) and exam (1h) corresponding to a total of 81 hours and 3 credits in the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

Assessment: Participation in theoretical and theoretical-practical classes, these will allow the discussion of applicability in the clinical practice of immunotherapy. The group presentation will also be included in the seminar of a clinical case seminars or a related scientific paper analysis. Students will be assessed individually for their performance in analyzing and discussing this case.

Distributed evaluation with final exam.
