Objectives
Students are expected to be able to acquire basic knowledge and skills which will enable them to participate in scientific projects on cardiovascular sciences requiring laboratory techniques of molecular biology and histologic and morphologic evaluation.
Learning outcomes and competences
- Learn laboratory safety and good practices applied to the learned techniques.
- Master at least two research techniques of molecular biology and histology with application in cardiovascular research, such as fibroblast cell culture, neonatal organotypic cultures, extraction and quantification of proteins, extraction and quantification of nucleic acids, histology samples handling, ELISA or HPLC.
- Design of an experimental protocol using at least two molecular biology or histology techniques.
- Solve scientific problems associated with the used techniques.
- Critical assess scientific papers related to the learnt techniques.
- Analyze and present scientific results obtained in the course of this curricular unit.
