Objectives

To understand the context of clinical decision support system, including their characteristics, requirements, components, evolution, success factors, and risks and challenges for health professionals.

Learning outcomes and competences

Describe the requirements for an ideal decision support system;
Characterize the components of a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS);
Explain how a CDSS works;
Explain how CDSS evolved in recent years;
Recognize the influence of CDSS in the attitudes of health professionals;
Use and characterize a CDSS.

Introduction to CDSS, requisites for a good decision support system, CDSS components, CDSS historical perspective, success factors, influence of CDSS in the attitude of health professionals, characterization of several systems, practical examples; evidence and decision in health; knowledge discovery in data and decision trees; CDSS heterogeneity and development of SADC as validation of diagnostic tests; mobile health; evaluation of CDSS.
