Objectives
Regarding Legal Sciences, it is intended that students familiarize themselves with matters relating to general principles of law applicable to the forensic context. In particular, the rules of evidence in Portuguese law, and detailing the most up to date and relevant topics in the various branches of law where there is a closer intersection with ancillary with technical Law sciences.
For Criminology, it is intended to convey the current state of theoretical and empirical criminology knowledge, to introduce to empirical research in criminology, and to situate the position of Criminology upon the Justice System.
Learning outcomes and competences
The unit’s contents, while not comprehensively addressing all of the complexity and magnitude of the problems inherent to Legal Sciences and Criminology, address the main key points in order to create a broad understanding of the topic, while allowing students to develop capabilities to deepen their knowledge according to their intervening area.
The contents were developed to raise the students’ sensitivity and critical judgment, thus promoting their problem solving ability.
