Objectives
This programme, which is included in a cycle of studies for teachers training, provides students with a good knowledge of the Portuguese culture, according to the programmes adopted in 3rd cycle of elementary school and in high school, as a way to prepare students for their respective teaching area.
Learning outcomes and competences
The program, focusing on the study of the processes of construction of cultural memory, aims to provide students with skills that enable the perception of Portuguese identity in the world, consolidating knowledge that supports the relationship with collective memory, understanding the genesis and development of fundamental and structuring themes such as the myth of Ourique, the subject polarized around Inês de Castro, the subject of Sebastianism and the Fifth Empire and its projection in contemporary times.

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theoretical exposition of the programme contents and analyses of texts and other audiovisual materials in class. This methodology allows the development of the oral component, which is fundamental to teaching practice, and to consolidate knowledge, as it allows to highlight the dimension of intertextuality.
The assessment model (final exam) is based on writing a short essay on one of the topics included in the program, so that studentes can develop a critical view of the issue.
