Objectives

Through regular meetings with the (s) is (s) scientific advisors, doctoral students pursue the elabotration of their proposed doctoral thesis: since the object, the space and chronology, the the sources, the methodology and the main bibliography are defined in the first semester of the 1st year, on the 2nd and 3rd year students will fulfill the research plan in accordance with the approved schedule and make any adjustments and modifications deemed necessary, to finish writing the thesis.

Learning outcomes and competences

After defining the theme, space, chronology, sources, the main bibliography and timeline of his work, the doctoral student is able to proceed with his his research, harmoniously combining the various phases of work, facing and solving problems that may appear till the final writing of the thesis, all in close collaboration with the scientifical supervisor(s).

Program

Being a seminar of orientation for research, there is not a program of studies. The topics of discussion and reflection and their sequence are defined by the supervisor, in accordance with the doctoral student and responding to the specific needs of his work.

This is part of the Generic Recommended reading on Theoretical and Methodological Questions I, only for the preparation, drafting and presentation of the thesis. Specific Bibliography will obviously depend on each thesis'theme.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Personal and tutorial teaching  from the supervisor(s); regular personal meetings for common reflection, identification of objectives and difficulties, bibliography suggestions, monitoring the progress of the work. 
Between each meeting, the PhD student will undertake independent study, work in libraries, archives and documentation centers, interviews, the collection, analysis and processing of sources and writing partial texts to reach a final written version of his thesis.

The supervisor will evaluate equally the contribution by the doctoral student in orientation meetings and the quality of the written thesis project submitted at the end of the year.
