Objectives

The main objective is the preparation of the Master's dissertation, or the completion of a professional internship, under the supervision of the supervisor proposed by the Master's Scientific Committee and approved in accordance with the Master's Regulations of the U.Porto.
At the end of the UC, the student must have proficiently completed either (1) a Master's thesis, according to the content and standards required for this degree, to be discussed in a public session, or (2) an Internship, and respective Final Report, which carries out what was foreseen in the respective plan. In any of the modalities, proficiency in research and in the integration and application of knowledge is encouraged, and the work carried out is expected to demonstrate skills in the organisation, analysis and systematisation of information, with domains of advanced research resources.

Learning outcomes and competences

The internship or the dissertation subject must be suitable for research work or its professional application. Consistency with the learning objectives is determined and checked on a case-by-case basis by the supervisor. The ability to research and formulate critical and innovative working hypotheses regarding the state of knowledge is stimulated.

Program

This Unit does not have a syllabus common to all students, nor teaching activity. The work is developed according to theMaster's dissertation plan, or the Internship plan, approved for each student by the Scientific Committee of the SP.
The dissertation must meet a high standard of scientific rigor, argumentative clarity and theoretical content in thescientific domains of the SP.
The internship is framed by an individual work program prepared by the student and that will be the object of aprotocol between the Faculty and the partner institution, with the objective of developing skills and applyingknowledge in a professional context.

The Bibliography is defined according to the Master's dissertation plan or the Internship plan approved for each student by the Scientific Committee of the SP. Knowledge and literature review is undestood as a starting point for innovative research.
