Cristina Parente, Sociologist, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (FLUP) and Integrated Researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto (IS UP)
Tenure in Sociology at the FLUP (2011). Post-Doctorate in Administration at the Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Administration Research at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (2012).
PhD in Sociology completed in 2004 at the FLUP. Master of Human Resources Policies and Management completed in 1996 at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon. Bachelor of Sociology completed in 1990 at the FLUP.
Publications: 70 articles in journals; 33 book chapters; 11 books. She was editor of the second series of the IS-UP working articles and of three special issues of scientific journals.
Supervision: 32 PhD theses; 51 MA dissertations; 8 postdoctoral researchers. She was Principal Investigator and/or Co-Principal Investigator in 12 research projects and a member of the research team in 18 research projects.
She is a consultant for the Portuguese Agency for the Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education (A3ES), where she works on the assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Sociology.
She is a consultant for the FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology as a member of the jury evaluating research projects in competition (Science4Policy).
She coordinates the "Civil Society, Alternative Economies and Volunteering" section of the Portuguese Sociological Association, where she has held several positions: board member (2000-2002), member of the deontological council (2019-2021) and chairman of the fiscal council (2021-2023). She is a founding member of the Association for Social Entrepreneurship (A3S) (2010-2017).
Since 2010, she has been conducting comparative studies on the social and solidarity economy ecosystem in Portugal, Spain, and Brazil. In 2015, she was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Government and Public Policy (IGOP) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Since then, she has been an observer for the Catalan Solidarity Economy Network (XES - Xarxa d'Econômica Solidària) (Spain). She regularly collaborates on teaching and research activities with the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). Here, she has worked as a visiting researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Management in (Non)Business Organisations (Nig.One) and at the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT), where she held a professorship (2018).
She was the founder of the SMEL network – SociomanagementEconomic Lusophone Network (2019) – and is a member of the Institute of Social Management (2020).
As a member of the Department of Sociology (DS) at the FLUP, she created the Continuing Education and Training Section and led and co-led the external communication team.
She coordinated the research line Work, Employment, Professions and Organisations (WEPO) at the IS-UP (2006-2010)
She works as a researcher, scientific coordinator and supervisor of projects related to various economies (social and solidarity economy, cooperative economy), agroecology and organic agriculture, energy, social entrepreneurship, human resource management, policy and program evaluation.
