Sociologist, Cristina Parente is an Associated Professor with Tenure of the Faculty of Arts (FA) and a Fellow Researcher of the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto (IS-UP) since 1991.
She completed her PhD in 2004 and her B.A. in 1990, both in Sociology at the FA-University of Porto. She completed her M.A. in Human Resources Politics and Management at the Instituto Superior de Ciências do Trabalho e da Empresa [Higher Institute of Work and Organization Sciences] – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa [University Institute of Lisbon] in 1996. In 2012, she completed her Post-Doc in Administration at the Centre of Post-Graduation in Administration Researches of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil).
As of 2010, she has been developing comparative studies on the ecosystem of the social and solidarity economy in Portugal, Spain and Brazil. In 2015, she was a visiting researcher at the IGOP - Institute of Government and Public Policy - of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Since then, she has been part of the Catalan Solidarity Economy Network (XES - Xarxa d'Economy Solidarity) (Spain) as an observer. Since 2009, she regularly cooperates in teaching and research activities with the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil). In this context and as a visiting researcher, she has worked at the Nig.One - Interdisciplinary Nucleus on Management in (Non) Business Organizations and IEAT - Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies.
She is a consultant for A3ES - Agency for Assessment and Accreditation of Higher Education - and for FCT - Fundação de Ciência e Tecnologia - in the scope of evaluation of graduation and post-graduation studies in Sociology and research projects.
She develops activities as a trainer, methodological consultant and evaluator of social and organizational intervention projects.
She carries out activities both as researcher and scientific coordinator and project advisor on social and solidarity economy, organic farming, social entrepreneurship, human resources management and adult training, as well as on the sociology of organizations.
She supervises and co-supervises several master and PhD theses and has been a member of several academic juris. She is the author and co-author of numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, oral presentations, and conferences at academic and professional events. She has refereed works and articles for scientific journals, as well as papers for scientific conferences.
She was the director of the B.A. in Sociology at the FLUP between 2014-2023. As a member of the Department of Sociology (DS) of the FLUP she has created the Section of Continuous Training and Education. She led and co-led the team of external communication of the DS-FLUP. She coordinated the research line on Work, Employment, Professions and Organizations (WEPO) of the IS-UP. She was editor of the 2nd series of working papers of the IS-UP.
