The Masters courses are aimed at broadening sociological knowledge on Portuguese society and, at the same time, analysing theoretically, methodologically and technically issues that are today being debated within sociology. By encouraging research and training activities, the courses aim to provide a response to the social requests the University is faced with.
The Department of Sociology publishes the journal Sociologia - Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto. The Department also maintains close ties with a research unit, Instituto de Sociologia da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto.
