Objectives


  • to acquire knowledge about organizations as an object of study of Sociology;

  • to analyze and apply the fundamental concepts of the theoretical and thematic currents developed in Sociology of organizations;

  • to provide students with pratical knowledge abiur organizations that will enable them, in the future, to  apply it in both research careers and professional careers. 

Learning outcomes and competences


  • development the capacity of refelction and  critically analyze about contemporary societies using the conceptual frameworks of Sociology of Organizations;

  • development of learning capacity enabling students to pursue lifelong learning with a high degree of autonomy;

  • mastery of the theories and the issues proper  of Sociology of Organizations;

  • knowledge of the main structural characteristics of contemporary Portuguese society and its insertion in the European .Union

Teaching methods and learning activities

Expository methods combined with interrogative, demonstrative and active methods.



Theoretical-practical lessons (TP) - expository lessons about the different points of the program, with privilege to the exposition of theoretical contents. The intervention of the teacher is combined with interrogative practices, which appeal to the participation of students, and with demonstrative methodologies, emphasizing the demonstration with cases of Portuguese society.



Tutorial classes  (OT) guided by work programs. Tutorial sessions consist of scientific-pedagogical support and supervision of students in previously defined small groups, and oral presentation and discussion of the work done. Students are assessed by the quality of their participation and the work done, presented and defended in these sessions.

Eligibility for exams


The distributed assessment without exam consist 3 components: 
i) written test;
ii) case study;
iii) thematic report.

All components are compulsory.


To obtain a positive evaluation, never the evaluation obtained in any of the evaluation components can be less than 10 values.

The appeal season is composed of the same number of tests carried out throughout the semester, as well as the respective weights. All studeudents who have a grade between 7,5 and 9,5 in one of the assessment components are also entitled to the appeal period.
