Objectives

The training unit's general objectives are to:
- Teach the multifaceted values of theatre of theatre as a theoretical-practical learning space.
- Promote, through individual and teamwork, personal and interpersonal development.
- Valuing collaborative, interdisciplinary and multicultural learning processes (of the individuals, themes and practices).
- Contribute to a well-rounded education which allows the student to simultaneously acquire linguistic, literary, artistic, scientific, social and ethical skills.
- Provide students with transversal and transferable skills learned and developed on site in a professional environment, which improveseir integration into the job market.

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Know and recognize the importance of theatre as a learning space, in which one learns by doing, using the body and the mind.
- Develop a work of creation or interpretation, in which individual and teamwork are evident.
- Be aware of interpersonal, interdisciplinary and multicultural contributions in subjects / actors, in themes and in theatrical practices.
- Know how to read a text, not so much with the physical skills that allow you to vocalize a text, but with the intellectual and emotional skills that allow you to recognize and appreciate its various interpretations and ways it can be said.
- Apply, in diverse contexts, namely in a personal context or in a professional / social environment, the usefulness of some transversal and transferable skills: the relationship of the voice with movement, of gesture with the space, of the intellect with the body, of the theory with the practice, or the individual with the environment.

1. Reading the Space
   a) The different types of theatrical spaces. Guided visits to the spaces of the National Theatre of São João (TNSJ), Monastery of São Bento da Vitória (MSBV), Teatro Carlos Alberto (TeCA).
   b) The spaces in the theatre: stage, orchestra, backstage, rehearsal rooms, etc.
2. Reading the Text
   a) Types of reading.
   b) Face-to-face action: the text and the body.
3. The meanings of the performance
   a) Rehearsals.
   b) Representation.
4. Performance analysis
   a) Dialogue with the actors.
   b) Beyond dramaturgy.
5. Masterclass in reading with an artistic director.

Teaching methods and learning activities

This course starts with the action in theatre moving towards and covering the observation of theatre, going from the practice to the theoretical reflection. The student learns to see through doing. The various components of the syllabus are, in fact, different strategies of its methodology: the knowledge and understanding of the theatrical space, readings on stage, rehearsals, performance analysis, assistance, reading masterclasses with an artistic director. They intend to teach the importance of theatre as a learning space, valuing collaborative, interdisciplinary and multicultural learning processes so that the students may acquire skills that are simultaneously linguistic, artistic, scientific, social and ethical. The course provides students with transversal and transferable skills, learned and developed in an environment that contributes to their integration into life, society and the professional world.
