Objectives

This course will offer a multidisciplinary reflection on the historical, cultural, political and sociological evolution of France from the colonial era to the present day.
Much of the course will be structured around discussionions and debates on the issue of coexistence, multiculturality and integration into the society of a country which aims to be one and indivisible, but that has deeply changed.

Learning outcomes and competences

The course aims to give students the keys for a better understanding of the social, cultural and political aspects and complexities of contemporary France.

1. Historical perspective on the French colonization.

2. The process of decolonization based on the examples of Indochina and the Algerian war.

3. Reflections and debates on topics related to French comtemporary society, especially in the field of integration, immigration, tolerance, Islam, great replacement, decolonialism.

4. Work on novel, song, Youtube and cinema.
