Objectives
- To understand the specificity of philosophical anthropology within the field of Philosophy and in relation to positive anthropologies.
- To recognize issues and problems of philosophical anthropology in articulation both with philosophical tradition and contemporary discussion on this subject
Learning outcomes and competences
After attending UC students acquire skills to understand the complexity and specificity of scope of training Philosophical Anthropology in Philosophy.
- To acquire interpretative and critical skills regarding philosophical texts, from the perspective of philosophical anthropology
- To develop skills that serve to embrace concepts and notions within philosophical anthropology.

1. The place of philosophical anthropology within the context of Contemporary Philosophy and the History of Philosophy
1.1. Primacy and specificity of anthropological issues
1.2. The problematic nature of Philosophical Anthropology: a resistant subject-matter
2. Consciousness, subjectivity and inter-subjectivity
2.1. From ambivalent consciousness (Descartes) to pure subjectivity (Kant)
2.2. Boundaries and thresholds of the (re)configuration of the human. On the order of feeling.
2.3. The Other and personal identity; distinctiveness and love.
3. The issue of the analytic of finitude in contemporary thought
3.1. Kant’s outline of an analytic of finitude
3.2. Reach and limits of the Heideggerian review of Kant’s anthropological itinerary
3.3. Anthropology and “the death of man” (Foucault)
3.4. Philosophical anthropology as the emergence of fallibility, fragility, of human disproportion and mediation (Ricoeur)

Teaching methods and learning activities
Theory-practical classes and research assignments supervised by the lecturer. Based on the principle of didactic variability, these classes will mobilise the pedagogical virtues of lectures, group work and strategies typical of research, particularly in terms of exploring philosophical texts and literature research.
