Apresentação Pessoal

João Paulo de Jesus Faustino has post-doctoral studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities - Nova University (Lisbon), he is a Senior Fellow at CITI/Institute for Tele-Information, Columbia University (NY/EUA) and an integrated member of CITCEM/ Centre of Investigation of Transdisciplinary of Culture, Space and Memory). He is the Director and co-founder of the master’s in Communication and Management of Creative Industries and a professor at the Journalism and Sciences Communication Department at Porto University (he teaches topics related to media, journalism, cultural and creative organizations, and institutions: Economics, Publica Policies, Communication, Marketing, Management and Business business perspective applied to the Media and Creative Sector); he is also co-director, with Terry Flew, of the JOURNAL OF CREATIVE INDUSTRIES AND CULTURAL STUDIES – JOCIS. Paulo Faustino is a member of the permanent committee of the RTP Opinion Council (Portugal Public Radio and Television).

Paulo Faustino was – 2014/2020 - Chairman of the International Media Management Academic Association (IMMAA) and was a Visiting Researcher at several European and North American Universities, Paulo Faustino teaches media marketing, management, economics, and public policies in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs in national and international universities. He has been a Visiting Professor at various international universities, namely in Brazil (Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade do Rio do Vale do Sinos), China (Tongji University, University Polytechnic of Macau, and San Joseph University), Russia (Lomonosov State University; National Research University), Switzerland (Fribourg University).

He concluded his European Ph.D. in Media Management at the Complutense University of Madrid, Faculty of Communication - in cooperation with Jonkonping University (Sweden). Paulo Faustino holds a Master in Economic and Organizational Sociology, from the Technical University of Lisbon, and graduated in Human Resources Management. He has also completed Advanced Courses in Media and Entertainment Management (from the Anderson School of Management – University of California, Los Angeles) and Publishing Management (Stanford University).

Paulo Faustino was a board member and co-founder of the European Association of Media Management Education (EMMA), as well as part of the scientific boards from relevant international academic events like the World Media Economics Conference, for example. Previously, he worked for about 20 years in relevant positions in the Media Industry and was an adjunct for the State Secretary and Presidency Minister at the Portuguese Government. Paulo Faustino has conducted consultancy work for several private and public institutions such as the World Bank and the Portuguese Media Regulatory Entity; he was General Secretary of the Portuguese Media Confederation. He was also an executive board advisor at Lusomundo Media (a former media group from Portugal Telecom’s group). Additionally, was Vice-President of the Portuguese Press Association, President of the Communication Observatory, and board member of the Centre for Professional Training in Journalism (Cenjor).

He is the author and co-author of 12 books and around twenty scientific articles published in national and international journals, as well as in books about media studies (economics, public policies, communication, marketing, and management). He is a member of the editorial board and reviewer of 9 international journals.

Paulo Faustino has taken part in several international conferences and courses as a teacher. His research is focused on Media and Creative Industries Studies, namely in the following domains: Ownership Concentration, Media Pluralism, Public Policies, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Management, Communication, and Marketing approaches applied to Media and Journalism Organizations, as well as Creative Industries.
