Personal Presentation
She is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto - Department of Sociology and a researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the same Faculty (IS-UP). Her research activity has centred on the issue of domestic and gender-based violence, but she has also carried out intense research in the areas of gender equality, family, ageing, women's work and occupational health.
She has carried out teaching-learning activities in various curricular units of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of studies in Sociology at FLUP, the University of Porto and other universities. She has been involved in a number of activities, both in management bodies and in various scientific and pedagogical committees at FLUP and other UP Faculties.
She was vice-director of FLUP (2014 - January 2019); vice-president of the Council of Representatives (2010-2014); Director of the Department of Sociology (2004 and 2008), Director of the degree course in Sociology (2004 and 2008); member of the Coordinating Committee of the Scientific Council (2004-2008); member of the Pedagogical Council of FLUP (2006 and 2008). She is currently a member of the General Council of the University of Porto, Chair of FLUP's Ethics Committee and Director of the Master's programme in Sociology.
She has carried out relevant scientific evaluation activities, namely as Coordinator of the Sociology panel: Call for PhD Scholarships 2020, 2021 and 2022; Co-Coordinator of the Monitoring Committee for Research Infrastructures of the National Roadmap, Social Sciences and Humanities (RNIE) (2019-2021); Evaluator of the Evaluation Committee for the Final Scientific Reports of IC&DT projects / Sociology area (2019-2023), member of External Evaluation Committees (CAE) of A3ES, among others.
She is the principal investigator of the project ‘HIDDENCLEaners - Who does the cleaning in Portugal? Intersection of vulnerabilities and occupational risks among cleaning workers in Facility Services’, funded by FCT (Jan 2026-Dec 2028).
At FLUP, she is also responsible for the following projects:
-CD-Core - Cancer diagnosis, therapies and lifestyle: Strategies to overcome resistance to chemotherapy and long-term adverse effects (NORTE 2030/Co-funded by the European Union); -IQUAL_CAMPUS - Joint cross-border training system on gender equality in the workplace, funded by the European Union (INTERREG VI-A Spain-Portugal Cross-Border Cooperation Programme (POTEP) 2021-2027).

She is the author of several national and international publications in her fields of research.
