Apresentação Pessoal

João Paulo de Jesus Faustino holds a European doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid and the University of Jönköping, and completed his postdoctoral studies at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the New University of Lisbon. He holds a master's degree in Economic and Organizational Sociology from the Technical University of Lisbon.

He has advanced/executive training from the following international institutions: Media & Entertainment Management (Anderson School of Management – University of California, Los Angeles - UCLA); Publishing Management (Stanford University); and Regulation Issues (London School of Economics and Political Science).

He is currently a professor and director of the Master's Degree in Communication and Management of Creative Industries, taught within the Department of Communication and Information Sciences at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto (FLUP), where he teaches subjects related to media studies and creative and cultural industries, namely management, business models, marketing, communication, audiences, and viewership.

Paulo Faustino is a lecturer on the PhD program in Communication and Information Sciences, taught at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. He is a member of the Transdisciplinary Research Center 'Culture, Space and Memory' (CITCEM) and Senior Fellow at the Institute for Tele-Information at Columbia University (CITI, New York). He is also co-director, together with Terry Flew, of the Journal of Creative Industries and Cultural Studies – JOCIS, and a member of the permanent committee of the Opinion Council of RTP (Portuguese Public Radio and Television).

Between 2014 and 2020, he was President of the International Media Management Academic Association (IMMAA). He is co-founder and former member of the board of directors of the European Association of Media Management Education (EMMA). He is the author and co-author of more than 20 books and 35 scientific articles published in national and international journals, as well as works dedicated to media studies (economics, public policy, communication, marketing, and management). He is a member of the editorial board of several international scientific journals.

He has been a visiting professor at several international universities, with frequent collaborations in Brazil, China, Russia, and Switzerland. As a special guest and lecturer, he has participated in scientific events on every continent, with presentations in more than 30 countries. His research focuses on Media Studies and Creative and Cultural Industries, with a focus on the following areas: concentration of ownership, media pluralism, public policy, economics, entrepreneurship, management, communication, and marketing.

Before his academic career, Paulo Faustino worked for about 20 years in senior positions in the media industry. He was deputy to the Secretary of State and Minister of the Presidency of the Portuguese Government, in addition to having carried out consulting work and projects funded by various public and private institutions, such as the World Bank and the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC).

He was Secretary-General of the Portuguese Media Confederation, advisor to the Board of Directors of Lusomundo Media (formerly the media group of the Portugal Telecom group, currently the Altice Group), vice-president of the Portuguese Press Association, president of the Communication Observatory, and member of the board of the Professional Training Center in Journalism (CENJOR).
