Objectives
French A2 aims to strengthen and develop the skills acquired in French A1 by in order to take students to the A2 level as defined in the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages.
Learning outcomes and competences
By the end of the semester students should:
- have extended their communicative skills, both orally and in writing;
- be able to exchange ideas and give information on familiar topics in everyday situations by taking part in a conversation or by writing simple descriptive, informative or narrative texts (letters, invitations, etc.)
- be able to understand written texts and audio/video recordings adequate to this level;
- have extended their vocabulary and grammatical knowledge;
- have deepened their knowledge of the diversity of the French-speaking world.

Pre-requirements (prior knowledge) and co-requirements (common knowledge)
Enrolment in French A2 presupposes the acquisition of the contents of French A1.
Program
1. Grammar skills:
Place and agreement of adjectives (revision).
Adverbs in "-ment."
Comparative adjectives and adverbs.
Expressing duration ("depuis", "dans", "pendant", "il y a...que", "ça fait...que") and frequency ("souvent", "parfois", "toujours",...).
Pronouns: personal COD and COI, 'adverbial' "en" and "y", indefinite ("quelque chose", "quelqu'un",...), relative "qui", "que" and "où".
Negation (2) ("ne...plus", "ne...jamais", "ne...rien", "ne... personne", "ne...ni...ni...")
Restriction, limitation ("ne.... que" and "seulement").
Affirmative and negative imperative (with pronouns).
Indicative tenses: present tense (revision + other 3rd group verbs), simple future tense (+ revision of the periphrastic future "aller" + inf.), 'passé composé' (with COD and agreement), 'imparfait', present conditional (formation and polite use).
2. Communicative skills:
Understanding and using vocabulary related to everyday activities, the close environment and work.
Asking someone for/giving someone something.
Following and giving simple instructions, advice, etc.
Greeting, congratulating, assessing and reacting on different occasions.
Describing and comparing places, things and people.
Relating and describing past events and personal experiences.
Talking about the future: expressing a prediction, explaining plans.
Situating (oneself) in time and expressing frequency).
Talking about everyday life (hobbies, work, etc.).

Teaching methods and learning activities
Communicative and action-oriented, task-based approach.
Students will develop their skills and autonomy by carrying out various tasks, individually or in groups, in order to obtain results to be shared in class.
These tasks include (1) individual research of lexical information to be shared in the form of a glossary; (2) research of other information to be shared in class; (3) preparation and presentation of dialogues; (4) writing of short texts. Finally, an individual or group oral presentation may be requested.

Eligibility for exams
Students are required to attend 75% of classes and validation of the continue avaliation. Exceptions according to general and FLUP regulations.
Calculation formula of final grade
1. Distributed evaluation without final exam ("Epoca Normal"):
Participation: 10% (minimum 75% attendance and 75% of the tasks proposed in class and at home)
Written test: 55% (written comprehension: 10%; language structures: 20%; written production: 25%). [Note: minimum 10/20 to be able to sit for the oral exam]
Oral comprehension: 10%
Individual oral test (continuous production and interaction): 25%.
A passing mark of 8/20 is required for each component of the assessment plan.
2. "Epoca de Recurso" for students who have failed the individual oral test (Distributed evaluation)
Students who have at least 11/20 in the written test will be able to retake only the individual oral test. The calculation formula of final grade is the same as for the "normal" session and a passing mark of 8/20 for the oral test is still required.
3. "Epoca de Recurso" and "Época Especial":
Written exam: 55% (the same as the written test) [Note: minimum 10/20 to be able to sit for the oral exam]
Oral exam: 45% (oral comprehension 10%, continuous production and interaction 35%)
A passing mark of 8/20 is required for each component of the exams.
Special assessment (TE, DA, ...)
At the "Recurso" session, students who have passed in distributed evaluation may improve two of the following three assessment components: language structures, written production and oral production. The calculation formula is the same as for distributed evaluation.
