Objectives

Develop the autonomy and involvement of learners,
consolidate and expand the general skills and
communicative language skills acquired in A1, A2 and B1.1
so that students reach level B1 in most of the
comprehension skills and oral and written production.

Learning outcomes and competences

Successful Students should be able to :

  • get the gist of authentic audio and/or audiovisual documents on the news;
  • read and understand contemporary short stories and recent newspaper articles;
  • express themselves orally and take part in conversations on familiar topics, with or without preparation;
  • write coherent texts to describe, tell a story and/or argue.

1. Development of oral and communicative skills

  • Reading aloud practice
  • Listening comprehension of authentic audio and/or audiovisual documents in standard and informal French: comprehensive understanding, information tracking and oral or written report
  • Role play, prepared or improvised
  • Introduction to totpolectal variation
2. Development of written discursive skills
  • Identification of cohesion and coherence networks in newspaper articles
  • Writing production: letters to describe and share personal experiences; letters of complaint

3. Consolidation and improvement of linguistic skills

3.1 Consolidation of acquired skills in oral and written
training exercises

3.2 Lexical enrichment on commitment and major social
issues: solidarity, mutual aid, social movements in France, ecology, immigration, etc.

3.3 Awareness of phraseology (idioms, collocations,
phrases)

3.4 Grammatical contents: Real and unreal hypothesis,
The past subjunctive, the sequence of ideas opposition,
concession, goal, restriction, condition, future tense,
gerund, present participle, verbal adjective, possessive
and interrogative pronouns, construction with two pronouns,
the expression of duration, anteriority, posteriority and
simultaneity, adjectives and indefinite pronouns.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Communicative and interactive approach based on the performance of individual and group tasks, in class and outside of class:

Hearing and understanding of authentic documents in standard French,

then of documents reflecting the topolectal variation of spoken French Reading and understanding of contemporary news and press articles; identification of cohesion and coherence networks.

Search for press articles to classify according to their genre (news item, column, editorial or opinion pieces).

Presentation of role plays, discussions, debates, etc.

Group work.

Eligibility for exams

Students are required to attend 75% of classes. Exceptions according to  FLUP regulations.

Calculation formula of final grade

"Época Normal":

Participation: 20% (at least 75% attendance and 75% tasks)

Written exam: 50% (pass mark 10/20 to take the oral exam)

Oral exam: 30% (comprehension, short speech and conversation)

The average mark for oral and written exams must be equal to or higher than 10/20.

 

"Época de Recurso", "Época Especial" and special status (TE, DA, etc.):

Written exam: 50% (pass mark 10/20 to take the oral exam)

Oral exam: 50% (comprehension, short speech and conversation)

Classification improvement

Students who wants to improve their mark will have to take the "Recurso" exams. Participation will not be taken into account:
Written exam: 50%
Oral exam: 50%

Observations

Students who are entitled not to attend 75% of classes have to contact the teacher asap.
