Objectives

- Understand the discourse as a means of self-construction and socialization.

- Understand the discourse produced in a given social context as a sign of the interrelations between languagem and society.

- Understand the discourse as an object  of analysis under specific lingustic methodologies

 Deepen the textual analytical and production skills.

Learning outcomes and competences


1. Acquire knowledge in the field of linguistic theories and methods of discourse analysis. 2. Identify the mechanisms of language conversion into speech. 3. Recognize the genres / types of discourse as features of various linguistic-discursive strategies 4. Exercise techniques of linguistic discourse analysis. 5. Exercise techniques of production in different genres / types of discourse.

I. Language and discourse 1. Theoretical and methodological paradigms of Structural Linguistics and Contextual Linguistics 2. Discourse, co-text and context: the coordinates of enunciation. 2.1 The marks of the context in the text and the marks of the text in the context. 2.1.1 The discourses as a sign of their context of production 2.1.2 The discourses as a form of intervention in their context of production 3. The concept of discourse: classical dichotomies. discourse vs. language, discourse vs. sentence; discourse vs utterance, discourse vs. text. II. Discourse analysis: historical review 1. Currents of Analysis within Discourse Analysis 1.1 Content Analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis, Linguistic Discourse Analysis, Ethnography of Communication; Ethnomethodology, Conversation Analysis, Computer-Assisted Discourse Analysis,; Automatic Discourse Analysis, Corpus Linguistics. III. Modes of discourse: oral and written discourse 1. Pragmatic-discursive analysis of oral sequences 1.1 Illocutionary values; contextual framework; interaction; social roles and discursive roles; face work and discursive negotiation. 2. Pragmatic-discursive analysis of opinion articles in the press 2.1 Semantic-pragmatic organizers; contextual framework; illocutionary values; argumentative movements; discourse markers; polyphony and dialogism; credit / discredit discursive strategies; discursive processes of modality. IV. Interdiscursivity; intertextuality, dialogism, polyphony and enunciative heterogeneity 1. Pragmatic-discursive analysis of the strategies "intertextual recycling of fixed formulas" and "interdiscursive recycling of textual macrostructures" V. Semantic-pragmatic and argumentative configuration of contrastive, conditional, concessive and consecutive constructions VI. Types of discourse and typologies of discourse. 1. Prototypical sequences and discursive heterogeneity 2. Multiplicity and functionality of the types / genres. 2.1 The types / genres as specialized discursive strategies at the graphic, morphological, lexical, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic levels.
