Resumo (PT):
The theme of urban renewal and environmental quality in cities has drawn increasing attention over the last few years in Portugal. The Regional Development Plan for the 2000-2006 period has set the rehabilitation of urban areas and their environmental improvement as ones of its major aims, considered of strategic importance for the country’s development.
In this paper we propose to analyse one of the programmes of urban reabilitation that was implemented in Portugal in 2000 (Resolution of the Ministers Council nº 26/2000), with the major goal of improving the quality of life in cities, through urban and environmental operations, to increasing the attractiveness of cities and its competitiveness in the National Urban Network System.- Programa de Requalificação Urbana e Valorização Ambiental das Cidades (POLIS).

The theme of urban renewal and environmental quality in cities has

their environmental improvement as ones of its major aims, considered of strategic
