DOI ASSIGNMENT (Digital Object Identifier)

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a persistent identifier for digital objects. When assigning a DOI, an object is described (article, book, data, etc.). This simplifies indexing and searches while making the object more visible. The Documentation and Information Unit of UPdigital is in charge of the management of DOIs in the U.Porto community. Their registration is available on the following platforms:

DATACITE – Assignment of DOIs to research data, under the protocol with FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia – Institution of Technology and Science). This service is free for the U.Porto community. [+ info about DataCite: https://datacite.org]

CROSSREF – Assignment of DOIs to books, articles, scientific journals and other documents published by U.Porto. There are costs associated with this service according to the table available at https://www.crossref.org/fees/. [+ info about CrossRef: www.crossref.org]

Requests and questions related to the assignment of DOIs should be sent to the Documentation and Information Management Unit of UPdigital. Once we received the metadata, the DOI will be registered in 10 working days.
