António Mira da Fonseca was born in Aveiro, Portugal, in 1970. He graduated in Zootechnical Engineering from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), Vila Real, in 1993, and holds a Ph.D. in Animal Science from the same institution, awarded in 1998, with the dissertation entitled Voluntary Intake and Energy Supplementation of Roughages in Sheep. He received the University Senate and National Engineering Prizes in 1995, as well as the Eng. António de Almeida Prize in 1996. He is Full Professor of Animal Science at the Department of Veterinary Clinics, ICBAS – School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Porto, and an integrated researcher at the Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry (LAQV) of the Network of Chemistry and Technology (REQUIMTE). António has been actively involved in higher education administration from an early stage, holding leadership positions including Director of the Department of Veterinary Clinics (2006–2015), member of the Scientific Council (2006–2019), member of the Pedagogical Council (2010–2014), member of the Executive Board (2010–2022), and Deputy Director of ICBAS (2018–2022). He proposed and led the Doctoral Programme in Animal Science (2009–2018) and directed the FCT Doctoral Programme in an Industrial Setting, SANFEED – Sustainable Animal Nutrition and Feeding (2014–2023). Since its establishment in 2019, he has represented ICBAS–University of Porto at CoLAB FeedInov — Association for Research and Innovation in Animal Nutrition and Feeding, acting as the institutional liaison to ensure effective coordination and communication. He also holds the positions of First Secretary of the General Assembly and member of the Advisory Board. Traditionally focused on ruminant nutrition, particularly dairy cows, his scientific research has increasingly embraced a comprehensive ‘One Nutrition’ perspective. António’s career is marked by close collaboration across academia, industry, and the production sector, including agricultural and livestock organizations, reflecting his commitment to the seven cooperative principles and to the long-term process of knowledge transfer. António Mira da Fonseca is a full member of the Order of Engineers (Professional License n.º 35790; College of Agricultural Engineering).
