Training aimed at strengthening the skills of professionals in the areas of health and life, within the scope of training focused on upskilling and reskilling adults, as part of the Impulso Adultos Program. The training targets the compound feed industry for animals, emphasizing the sustainability of the sector. It begins with modules on the legal framework. Nanostructured carriers of functional compounds are then used as an example of how emerging technologies can enhance the sustainability and functionality of feeds. The assessment of the life cycle in the compound feed industry is addressed, followed by industrial processes for the valorization of by-products at the production local and waste from the agri-food chain (large distribution), before discussing the importance and opportunity of using by-products, alternative ingredients, and locally produced ingredients in the formulation of compound feeds for various animal species. The specifics of pasture-based animal production systems are examined, concluding with the implementation of sustainable formulation decisions. This training, although specific and targeted, will contribute to enhancing the UP's training offerings, particularly in the fields of Veterinary Medicine, Aquatic Sciences/Biology, and Agricultural Engineering, to "Improve student employability" and "Modernize the training offer."
Partner institutions:
Know the main legislation applicable to the sector;
- Understand and apply life cycle assessment methodologies in the compound feed industry;
- Know industrial processes for valorising co-products and the importance of implementing them at the production site;
- Understand processes for valorising waste from the agri-food chain, including waste collected from large-scale distribution;
- Recognise the importance and opportunity of using by-products, alternative ingredients and locally produced ingredients in the formulation of compound feed for different animal species;
- Recognise the potential of nanotechnology in the sustainability and functionality of compound feed;
- Understand the specificities of animal production systems based on grazing;
