Apresentação Pessoal

Rui Amaral Mendes is currently professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (MEDCIDS - Department of Community Medicine, Information and Health Decision Sciences) and researcher at CINTESIS@RISE, Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (Clinical and Translational Research in Oncology), Porto, Portugal.

A former graduate of the University of Porto, he holds a PhD in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Pathology from the VU Universiteit Amsterdam. 

He held positions as Professor of Oral Medicine, Oral Oncology and Oral Surgery at the Catholic University of Portugal, Director of Specialized Master's Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Pathology. He was also Visiting Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan until 2014. 

In August 2015 he left these positions and became an Adjunct Professor at Case Western Reserve University, in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences. 

He is also a researcher at CIPES - Centre for Research in Higher Education Policies (University of Porto) and  member of the Social Accountability panel of the ASPIRE/AMEE - Association for Medical Education in Europe. 

He is Deputy Editor of the British Medical Journal - Case Reports and the Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine, a member of the editorial board for Oral Diseases, and an active reviewer for several scientific journals. 

Areas of interest and expertise: Head and Neck carcinogenesis and supportive care in cancer, oral and maxillofacial medicine, oral and maxillofacial bone tumours and oral surgery and Global Health.
