Acronym: DPO
Mission: The mission of the DPO is articulated with the overall mission of the Medical Faculty of the University of Porto regarding the best possible undergraduate and graduate teaching of MIMED Students and Residents of Pathology and Oncology of the C.H.S.João with regard to Biopathology, Oncobiology, Oncopathology and Oncology. The mission includes, also, as two of its major components the development of basic research and of translational research on Cancerous and Pre-cancerous Disorders and the integration of the Medical Faculty together with IPO-Porto, INEB, IBMC and other national and foreign institution, in a Platform for clinical/translational Cancer Research of international quality.

Description: The Department of Pathology and Oncology (DPO) of the Medical Faculty of the Unviersity of Porto (FMUP) is composed by three Units:
  1. Unit of Biopathology and Oncobiology: encompassing mainly scientists and pathologists involved in pregraduate and graduate teaching as well as in oncobiology research.
  2. Unit of Anatomic Pathology and Pathology of Cancer and Precancerous Lesions: encompassing mainly pathologists with a liaison to the Hospital Service of Anatomic Pathology involved in diagnosis, training of physicians and residents and doing translational research on cancer issues.
  3. Unit of Oncology: encompassing of oncologists and residents in oncology involved mainly in clinical tasks but also participating in pregraduate and graduate teaching and translational research.
