Objectives
This Curricular Unit aims to:
- Provide students with a holistic and global view of health, focusing on the social determinants that influence health inequalities, impacting their access and therapeutic outcomes.
- Develop analytical, critical, and intervention skills to improve access to and the quality of healthcare, considering socioeconomic and cultural contexts, reinforcing the (need for a) patient-focused perspective, and communication and relationship skills between doctor and patient.
- Enable specialised attention in the collection of contextual, social, and personal information, maintaining an attitude of respect and tolerance in order to strengthen partnership and collaboration, fostering autonomy and the capacity for shared decision-making.

We will adopt an interactive approach, combining seminars, debates and a particular focus on group works and case studies. These activities aim to develop analytical and reflective skills, essential for understanding and intervening in the Social Determinants of Global Health.

The student has to attend 75% of the classes.
Calculation formula of final grade
20% Continuous Assessment: based on attendance, active participation, group work, critical analysis of case studies, and the development of intervention projects. The ability to operationalize a global approach while being person-centered and empathetic towards their suffering will be valued. These methodologies reflect the goal of applying theoretical knowledge to practical contexts and promoting a critical and innovative approach to the challenges of global health.
80% Final Work: preparation of a
Global Health Case reportwith information gathered from clinical records/interviews with the patient and within the scope of the intervention project.
