Objectives
This curricular unit aims to evaluate the capacity of a student to perform autonomous, research-level work. Learning outcomes and competences
At the end of this curricular unit the students must:
1. study a research problem and familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art in the area;
2. propose and implement a solution for the problem at hand;
3. write and defend a dissertation that describes this work.

The proposals for dissertation are put forward by lecturers of the Master in Medical Informatics, or by external researchers, including lecturers from the University of Porto, professionals from health institutions, and industry people with whom the lecturers of the Master in Medical Informatics have research collaborations with. Eligibility for exams
Submission and presentation of the Dissertation within the deadlines stipulated by the University
Calculation formula of final grade
The final grade will be assigned based on the following criteria:
1. information provided by the advisor(s) regarding the student’s performance;
2. the dissertation written by the student;
3. a public presentation and defense of the dissertation work.
This public presentation may be made subsequent to a dissertation, project or internship in a company.
