Teaching language

Suitable for English-speaking students

Objectives

To show the students the extent of the eye specialists' professional performance.

To stimulate the choice for a professional career as an eye specialist by the students who feel a vocation for the scientific-professional area of Ophthalmology.

To transmit basic notions that allows future doctors to contribute to the screening, diagnosis and treatment of the main ocular diseases

Learning outcomes and competences

The program develops with three different types of teaching methods.
Theoretical teaching (10 sessions; 50 minutes), theoretical-practical teaching/seminar (5 sessions) and direct contact with clinical practice in the ophthalmology clinics.
Theoretical sessions will be in person for all students.
In practical sessions, each student will have the opportunity to attend 5 outpatient clinics sessions (2 students per teacher), 1 period of patient observation in the emergency department and a period of clinical observation in the operating room.
During the clinical practice sessions, a set of basic ophthalmology clinical maneuvers applicable to clinical practice in general will be trained.
This teaching is complemented with 4 theoretical-practical sessions with the aim of integrating theoretical knowledge with the observation of patients in the clinic, promoting discussion and knowledge acquisition.
The seminar (1h) aims to integrate knowledge with that of the Pathology UC.

With this methodology, it is intended to integrate in the teaching/learning process the theoretical knowledge with the main attitudes and specific performances of Ophthalmology

Continuous evaluation- 3 values.
Minimum classification for approval in the discipline - 10 values in all.
Getting Frequency: Attendance at least 75% of all classes.
Final classification calculation: Final grade = multiple-choice test grade + continuous assessment grade
