The program develops with three different types of teaching methods.
Theoretical teaching (10 sessions; 50 minutes), theoretical-practical teaching/seminar (5 sessions) and direct contact with clinical practice in the ophthalmology clinics.
Theoretical sessions will be in person for all students.
In practical sessions, each student will have the opportunity to attend 5 outpatient clinics sessions (2 students per teacher), 1 period of patient observation in the emergency department and a period of clinical observation in the operating room.
During the clinical practice sessions, a set of basic ophthalmology clinical maneuvers applicable to clinical practice in general will be trained.
This teaching is complemented with 4 theoretical-practical sessions with the aim of integrating theoretical knowledge with the observation of patients in the clinic, promoting discussion and knowledge acquisition.
The seminar (1h) aims to integrate knowledge with that of the Pathology UC.
With this methodology, it is intended to integrate in the teaching/learning process the theoretical knowledge with the main attitudes and specific performances of Ophthalmology
Visual acuity assessment. Refractive errors;
Red eye (differential diagnosis between the most frequent and the most severe red eye syndromes; diagnosis and therapeutics; referral criteria);
Glaucoma (pathophysiology, classification, workout, therapeutic options and prognosis);
Cataract (pathophysiology, classification, workout exams, therapeutic options and prognosis );
Strabismus and pediatricophthalmology. Ambliopia, ambliogenic conditions (therapeutic options and prophylactic attitudes);
Fundoscopy. Identification of the normal and pathologic fundus appearance. Fundoscopy in the major retina diseases (diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, retinal detachment and hypertensive retinopathy);
Neuroftalmology: fundoscopic evaluation of the optic nerve head. Evaluation and interpretation of the light pupillary reflex. Optic pathway lesions and its visual field repercussion.
Ocular oncology. Diseases of the orbit, eyelids and lacrimal system.
Theoretical classes (9 h), Theoretical-Practical (04h); Seminars with the Pathology UC (1h) Internship (14 h)
The information will be complemented with the availability of contents and exercises on the master's program e-learning platform.
Assessment methods: Evaluation mode: Final classification between 0 and 20 values determined from the following partial grades: Multiple choice test 46 questions (6 picture identification questions and 40 multiple choice questions) - 17 marks (minimum for approval 8,5 marks in 17).
Continuous evaluation- 3 values.
Minimum classification for approval in the discipline - 10 values in all.
Getting Frequency: Attendance at least 75% of all classes.
Final classification calculation: Final grade = multiple-choice test grade + continuous assessment grade
