Eligibility for exams

1. Practical examination of Dermatology

a) It is a mandatory component of the examination of the regular period, preceding the theoretical test and taking place at the end of each period of classes. It is a specific examination for the class and not of the semester and its classification is valid during the validity of the frequency.
Students who present themselves for improvement of classification or approval will have access to this examination in a special period. In exceptional and duly justified situations, this practical examination may be replaced by the discussion of descriptive clinical cases, but maintained as a component of the examination from the regular period and with the same value.

b) As it is the case of a practical examination, it implies a minimum frequency of the practical classes. Students who do not meet the minimum attendance frequency due to duly justified absences must compensate the missing classes in a period to be determined, according to the convenience of the student and the regular functioning of the curricular unit.

c) This practical examination has a value of 3 points. It consists in written answers to questions posed by the projection of images related to clinical cases.

d) In special evaluation periods (that is, all those that do not correspond to the regular one), including for students seeking the improvement of their marks, the theoretical exam will include an essay question, whose maximum classification of 3 points will be obtained after arithmetic average with that of the practical exam. In exceptional cases, discussed in advance and in due course with the students and only applied to the supplementary period of evaluation, the classification of the practical exam may replace totally or by half that of the essay question.

2. Theoretical test

It will consist of 20 multiple-choice questions. As mentioned above this theoretical test will include an essay question in the case of special periods of assessment. Whenever aplicable, these questions are elaborated in accordance with the Portuguese PNA, in "clinical-case" style, in order to stimulate the "problem-oriented" clinical reasoning in standard settings.

3. Access to practical and theoretical exams requires a minimum frequency of 75% of all active learning sessions, according to regulations in force.

4. Scores equal to or > 19.5 values in the theoretical test, at any assessment period, will imply an additional oral exam to confirm the classification. The final mark will be the arithmetic mean of the classifications attributed by the jury members and the classification obtained by the student in the theoretical test, that is, it will never be less than 10 points and could reach the 20. If the student chooses not to be submitted to this oral exam, he will have the final mark of 19 points.

Calculation formula of final grade

Practical exam + essay question (if applicable, see above) [3 points] + Theoretical test (20x0.85)
