- To understand how the diagnosis and follow up of these pathologies is performed.

To know and observe the multiple forms of treatment, from medical treatment in the consultation room to the surgical treatment in the operating room.
Working method
Presencial
Program
The aim of this unit is to prepare students for the most frequent ophthalmic problems in an increasingly aging population, since these pathologies will be exponentially more frequent. For this purpose, tutorial teaching will be carried out, allowing the acquisition of knowledge about the epidemiology and pathophysiology of cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and dry eye. They will be trained in the referral criteria of these pathologies, as well as in the ways that the diagnosis and follow-up of these patients take place. Knowledge about the different forms of medical, LASER and surgical treatment will also be transmitted, with observation of the referred surgeries for a better knowledge of the procedures and possible complications. Finally, the importance of a holistic approach to the elderly will be emphasized, taking into account their systemic clinical history and collaborating in a multidisciplinary way with other specialties in order to improve the quality of care provided.
