Teaching methods and learning activities

The Curricular Unit will be taught in the form of practical training in Psychiatric Service, in an integrated and multimodal way, through theoretical and theoretical-practical teaching components and the elaboration of a clinical history. These approaches allow active participation by students, promoting a more direct contact with people with mental illness, which facilitates the understanding of theoretical knowledge. The classes cover various diagnosis and treatment environments, such as inpatient care, day hospital, external consultation, liaison, emergency service, consultancy and residences, which compound the different functional units (Adult and Old Age Psychiatry, Youth and Family Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry and Day Hospital, Liaison Psychiatry).

Expository, interrogative, demonstrative and active methodologies will be used, and the theoretical classes will include a short lecture and the theoretic-practical, will allow the discussion of clinical cases.

Conventional, audiovisual and multimedia (e.g. powerpoint and movies) teaching resources will be used.

Students will be encouraged to use techniques of self-study, through compulsory readings, individual research, preparation and analysis of clinical cases for discussion. For each topic, specific bibliography will be indicated and/or support texts will be provided, beyond the basic bibliography.
