Objectives

This CU aims to train professionals, with the appropriate scientific, technical and human level, to exercise their activity in hospitals, investigation, and teaching sets. The activity developed in this module is targeted specifically to the formation of competent professionals within the human relationship (and human communication) in clinical settings, achieving the goals of the clinical encounter. Moreover, communication skills, which are the basis of all clinical acts, are mainly modulated alongside the work with a model teacher; that is why the academic training is essential.

Learning outcomes and competences

Promote, develop and improve skills and strategies needed for (1) the construction of the therapeutic relationship; (2) the pursuit of the objectives and tasks inherent to an interview or a clinical act; (3) the academic improvement of a clinical teacher.

Teaching methods and learning activities

1. Lectures and discussion based on updated literature after previous students’ reading of the materials.


2. Visualization of role-modeling videos, and discussion on the situations and on clinical vignettes.


3. Experiencial learning with role-playing in small groups among peers and with simulated patients.


4. Feedback, discussion and reflexion about these practical situations.


5. Continuous formative evaluation and summative evaluation based on a theoretical test assessed with standard instruments used internationaly.
