Objectives

Provide knowledge and stimulate the development of basic surgical skills leading to correct clinical performances.

Learning outcomes and competences

In this curricular unit students will develop knowledge and  basic surgical skills for the clinical practice, specifically wound dressing, surgical sutures, venous catheter placement, arterial puncture, surgical wound care, drain care, pre-operative desinfection.

Wound classification. Wound dressing. Local anesthesia. Basic surgical instruments for minor surgery. Normal and pathological scar development. Sutures. Soft tissues infection. Surgical drainage. Safety measures and infection prevention during surgical procedures.

Calculation formula of final grade

After qualitative evaluation as apt, a classification is attributed (scale from 0 to 20). To become apt more than 90% attendancy must be obtained. Quantitative evaluation takes in consideration knowledge and attitudes (0-6 points), clinical performance (0-8 points) and learning interest (0-6 points).
