Objectives

This course - based on specific skills and / or acquired over the Integrated Master Medicine Course - aim to give the student specific skills to develop a research project in an interest area. 

 

Learning outcomes and competences

At the end of the Course the student should be able to:

1. Search bibliography using information technology;

2. Collect, process and analyze data;

3. Develop the capacity of analysis and synthesis;

4. Develop critical thinking skills and creativity in addressing the issue;

5. Prepare a public presentation;

6. Develop public presentation skills;

7. Develop interpersonal skills with the Supervisor and Co-Supervisor.

Program

The student has to organize an individual work program, to be coordinated by the Supervisor with the support of the Co-Supervisor (optional). 

Training in complementary skills is done through a structured program of training sessions carried out during the academic year. The program comprises 5 training sessions, according to the needs identified to achieve the Discipline:
- Preparation of an original article;
- Preparation of a review article;
- Processing and data manipulation;
- Search Scientific Information; 
- Public presentations.

The Course also includes one pedagogic sessions in order to present the procedures and organization of the Discipline, realized at the beginning of the academic year.

Students’ guidance is done through email and Moodle platform and in-personsupport on fixed schedule or whenever requested.

Eligibility for exams

The evaluation considers the quality of a Dissertation/Monograph (52.5% of the final mark), the quality of presentation and the oral defense work (35.0% of the final mark) and the work publication in a scientific journal (1 2.5% of the final mark).

The assessment criteria can be consulted in the Assessment Grid I (“Grelha de Avaliação I”) and Assessment Grid II ("Grelha de Avaliaçaõ II) available on the Moodle platform at the Course page:

Approval conditions:
The student must have obtained, at least, 50% of the classification assigned to the thesis and also in the public presentation

Calculation formula of final grade

The Course final mark will be:

52.5% TE+35.0%OP+12.5%WP, where:

TE - Thesis

OP - Oral Presentation

WP - Work Publication in a scientific journal

 

The student must obtain, at least, 50% of the assigned classification to the thesis and also 50% of the assigned classification to the public presentation for approval at Course
