Objectives

To provide students with the possibility of early contact with medical toxicology considered as a recognized field of expertise focusing on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of poisoning and toxicity effects due to medications, occupational and environmental chemicals and toxins.

Teaching methods and learning activities

Teaching is face-to-face. Students are engaged in seminars and short clinical rounds. The generous collaboration of Dr. Óscar Camacho (Head of Hyperbaric Medicine Unit at the Hospital Pedro Hispano (expert in CO poisoning), of Dr. José Luís Brandão (Intensice Care Physician, expert in mushroom poisoning) and of Professor Luís Coentrão (Intensice Care Physician and Nephrologist)  is gratefuly acknowledged.

Calculation formula of final grade

Final scores are expressed on a 0 -20 scale (cut-point 10). Assessment is based on the discussion of a portfolio that includes a report of all activities in the several departments and on the quality of presentations in two seminars.

Attendance of the clinical rounds, preparation of a portfolio and two communications in seminars.
