Objectives

By the end of the course unit students must be able to understand the binomial Health/Disease at a population level through the identification of health problems and its determinants.

Learning outcomes and competences


By the end of the course unit students must be able to understand the binomial Health/Disease within Public Health, help understand the integration of the public health physician and the importance of their role in the Public Health Services.

Teaching methods and learning activities

-> 27 hours of tutorial guidance, including:
- lectures;
- accompanying Public Health physicians in Public Health services of primary care centres belonging to the Health Northern Regional Administration;
- accompanying other Public Health professionals in the same services or in the University of Porto Institute of Public Health.
-> 45 hours for the student’s studying and preparing for evaluation.
-> 9 hours to be managed by the student.

Eligibility for exams

Depends on:
- the student’s assiduity and
- the quality of an essay about a Public Health topic.

Calculation formula of final grade

At the beginning of the course unit the students will be told about the criteria by which essays are assessed.

Observations

There are three different time periods during which the course unit is taught; these periods are determined upon agreement between professors/lecturers and students at the beginning of each curricular year.

Recommended bibliography specific for a subject will be given during the course unit.
