Resumo (PT): Este artigo visa apresentar o novo perfil de profissional de informação formado na Universidade do Porto (U. Porto), como resultado de um modelo que se insere na mudança de paradigma no âmbito da emergente Ciência da Informação. Realizados os inquéritos por questionário, procedeu-se à análise comparativa dos resultados posteriormente cruzada com a caracterização do perfil do profissional da informação obtida num estudo realizado em 2005, visando tipificar os profissionais da informação graduados na U.Porto. As características destacadas neste profissional são a diversidade de conhecimentos, a capacidade de adaptação, o conhecimento tecnológico e a capacidade de inovar. Este estudo é relevante para qualquer instituição do ensino superior que forma profissionais de informação, bem como para os potenciais empregadores e para os próprios profissionais da informação. Apesar de neste estudo ter sido utilizada uma amostra que poderá parecer pequena, é um ponto de partida importante para a realização de estudos mais abrangentes e análises sobre o impacto que este novo perfil profissional está a provocar na sociedade portuguesa, sendo a perceção geral de profissionais globalmente bem-sucedidos.

Abstract (EN): This paper aims to present the information professional trained at the University of Porto (U.Porto), as the result of a paradigm shift brought on by the new field of Information Science. Following the surveys conducted, a comparative analysis of the results was performed, intersected with the characterization of the information professional’s profile, thus typifying the information professionals graduating from the U.Porto. Some of the most important characteristics of the new information professional are highlighted, such as versatility, ability to summarize, knowledge diversity, adaptability, technological knowledge and ability to innovate. This study is relevant to any institution that trains information professionals at higher education level, as well as to potential employers and to the information professionals themselves. In despite of the small sample used in this study, it is an important basis to conduct more comprehensive studies and analyses on the impact on Portuguese society of the new and successful information professionals who have graduated from the U.Porto.
